How To Work From Home: Interview with Caitlin Pyle
1. Hi Caitlin! Let’s start from the very beginning. Where are you from? Where were you born and raised?
Hi Adnan! I was born in Augusta, Georgia but raised in Orlando, Florida. I grew up in a triple wide trailer. 🙂
2. When and how did you first heard of the possibility of working from home?
I studied abroad when I was in college and I started proofreading other students’ college papers.
They didn’t pay me much, but it gave me a flavor for the idea that I could do work and get paid for it without having to walk into an established company and give them 8 hours of my life every day.
It wasn’t until years later that I took it any further than that and turned it into a business, but that was my first experience with working from home and I was already sold on the idea of it.
3. What was your life like before figuring out you could work from home?
I was moving from one dead-end job to another, never truly finding something I enjoyed, until I finally was fired by some bosses who did it in the most disrespectful way.
I decided then that something needed to change and I no longer wanted to work for a boss anymore, especially one I didn’t respect or receive respect back from in return.
Getting fired ended up being the best thing that ever happened to me because it was the beginning of a whole new life for me!
4. Tell us about your first online business venture: How did you come up with the idea and how did you start?
As I grew in my knowledge and success as a freelance proofreader, others wanted to know more about how to do the same, so I wrote an eBook about how to successfully proofread from home.
Turns out a lot of people were intrigued by it and wanted to know even more than what I had originally offered, so in 2014 I started Proofread Anywhere.
It took no time at all for it to explode and become what it is today.

5. How long did it take your first venture to take off from the ground? What were your biggest challenges to make it work?
My proofreading business, once I got serious about it, was generating $3,000+ within six months!

The biggest challenge was the naysayers. People who didn’t understand the internet business world or nontraditional work models.
You’re raised to listen to people who are older and wiser, so you’re inclined to believe everything they say, but if those people aren’t familiar with the territory you’re venturing into, it’s not always wise to listen to them.
6. Currently, which business model brings in the most revenue for you?
The business model that brings in the most revenue so far is course creation.
It allows me to help more people at once and I love that! It always comes down to that — how can I help the most people?
7. What kind of habits and mindset helped make you successful?
I love that you ask about mindset because it really is what has made the biggest difference for me!
If you choose to live in fear or let your doubts control your actions, you will never move forward.
What we believe about ourselves and what we can achieve is so important!
One of the most important mindsets in my life right now and I remind myself of it daily is that it’s okay to get scared.
There are some steps I have had to take in my career and even changes that I have made that have been crazy scary!
It’s easy for us to think that if it’s scary that maybe that means it’s not meant to happen. But everybody feels scared about something and we can’t let it hold us back!
It’s okay to be scared, but it’s not okay to let it dictate my decisions.
8. If you were to start all over again, what would you do differently?
I would have started working with Julie Stoian sooner. She’s an incredible mentor, friend, and expert in her field.
9. Apart from your spectacular courses, you have a FREE “Work At Home” book up for grabs. Tell us about it.
There are three steps for anyone that wants to work from home:
- Breaking free from the lies that hold you back
- Avoiding scams and finding the right fit for you
- Launching your own work-at-home business
I walk readers through those three steps and show them how it is possible for anyone to have work-at-home freedom.

I give them the book for free because I want to make an impact.

10. Do you think anyone who’s been looking to break out of the 9-to-5 life can start working from home after implementing what’s in the book?
Absolutely! But the key here is that you have to truly implement what’s in the book.
My book isn’t just full of some trite little quotes and ideas that are supposed to change your life. There are also steps that need to be taken and a lot of hard work to be done.
Anyone can work from home as long as they are willing to learn the skills and put in the work needed to get it done.
11. Lastly, what tips do you have for those who would like to start their own work-at-home business?
Focus on who you want to serve. You might feel nervous or anxious or think “I could never sell something” but what it really comes down to is serving others.
Who can you serve with your unique talents and skills (and the ones you’re building)?
When you shift your focus from yourself to serving someone else, it becomes a lot easier to sell because you’re not trying to peddle a product to anyone that comes your way — you’re helping the people that you are uniquely suited to help.
My Thoughts
That was some fantastic advice from Caitlin Pyle.
